Meon Valley
The Meon Valley
Beagles were started by Mrs Vivian and others immediately after the
Second World War. Part of the present country was previously
hunted by the Gosport & Fareham Beagles which are thought to have been
initially founded by the Hampshire Regiment in the 1850s.
They were later taken
over by the Royal Marine Light Infantry, but the pack was
predominantly civilian by the 1920s. This pack seems to
have ceased to hunt by the start of the Second World War.
For most of their
early years they were kennelled at Peel Common near Fareham.
The Meon Valley
Beagles have been kennelled near Hambledon since their inception.
Most (but not all) of their country is south of the
A272.
